SANDY'S
OLD FASHIONED DRESSING
(I've
used this every holiday season for 25 years .... it's the BEST!)
INGREDIENTS
Cooked
giblets from bird (finely diced)
Broth
from giblets
1
bag of garlic flavored stuffing cubes
1
box Jiffy cornbread mix
1
Cup minced onion
1
Cup minced celery
1
Apple, cored, and finely diced
1
teaspoon (bottled) diced garlic
1/3
Cup margarine or butter
2-3
Cups milk
2
eggs
1
Tbsp. sugar
1/4
teaspoon sage (or to taste)
Salt,
pepper, and poultry seasoning to taste
Note:
You can use the seasoning packet from a box of stuffing mix in lieu
of the salt, pepper and poultry seasoning.
DIRECTIONS
COOK
giblets and SAVE broth
MIX
garlic flavored stuffing mix with Jiffy cornbread mix
PEEL,
core, quarter, and dice apple.
MINCE
giblets and ADD to bread mixture
SAUTÉ
minced onion, celery, and apple in oleo in large skillet
ADD
milk to sautéed mixture and heat just to boiling
POUR
sautéed mixture over breaded mixture.
ADD
eggs (well beaten).
ADD
sugar, sage, salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning to taste
Mix
all ingredients together well.
If
too dry, add giblet broth or canned chicken broth. Should be very
moist before baking
Bake
at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes or until just golden brown on top.
SERVES 6-8
